In an era of escapism, when the majority of people who exist wish to be somewhere else. Be it time, place, or with another person, we each dream of a life different than the one in front of us. Generally seen as a motivational tool, one used to create goals and to manifest our dreams into reality, this is more commonly manifested in ways like the overuse of social media, constant video gaming, or losing oneself in things like work or unhealthy relationships. We all escape to places where we feel we are experiencing a change in the life we are living, be it synthetic or not. Counterproductively to the goal-setting nature of imagination, the ability to escape in today’s world generally causes us to remain in the same spot, likely due to the number of tools we have at our disposal in order to achieve this.
